Non-shooting course that teaches students the basic skills to explain the attitude necessary for the safe handling of firearms/ammunition in the home. This course is designed for those new to firearms but more advanced users will benefit as well. The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation and is available for delivery in two ways. One option is the traditional instructor-led course where you will receive direct instruction from an NRA-certified instructor from beginning to end. The other option has two components: a self-study or “e Learning module” which is completed online in your own time frame and a hands-on practical portion conducted in a classroom and shooting range with an instructor. This course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and provides information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense. This course is designed to cover the NRA’s Personal Protection in the Home course along with items listed in section 5j of 1927 PA 372 of Michigan law. Our course is 8-10 hours of classroom time with a Law enforcement officer handling the “Deadly use of Force” portion. Range time is 3-hours plus depending on the number of students. Ear and eye protection and a minimum of 150 rounds of ammunition needed for the range portion of class. A firearm can be provided if need be for the range time, at no additional charge.
